Last week I attended the 4th Annual Plein Air Convention held this year in Monterey, California. The convention is an annual event where plein air painters (artists who paint the outdoors while outdoors) from all over the world joined to learn from the masters, meet each other and go outside to paint. Nearly 800 artists attended this year’s convention.
I’ve attended the convention before, but this was the first time that as a watercolor painter, I didn’t feel alone or isolated. There were several well known watercolor painters there to learn from and paint with. We painted on the beach at Asilomar, Lover’s Point, The Mission in Carmel and Fisherman’s Wharf. How amazing it is to see a mile of painters lining the beach front painting the breathtaking scenes before us.
Next year the convention will be held in Tucson, Arizona. To learn more about future conventions and to see highlights from this year go to their website at: http://www.pleinairconvention.com/
